The day of the retired police officers, Parliament honors hero Afrim Bunjaku and his family

Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, paid respects and laid flowers at the grave of Kosovo Hero, Afrim Bunjaku, during the commemoration of April 26th, the Memorial Day dedicated to fallen police officers. Following the tributes at the hero’s grave in the village of Samadrexhë in Vushtrri, Kurti, accompanied by a delegation, also visited the Bunjaku family. Afrim Bunjaku, who served as a rank-and-file officer with the Kosovo Police, was killed on September 24, 2023, in the village of Banjskë in Zvečan.

His death occurred during a confrontation with Serb paramilitary groups while he was actively defending the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and constitutional order of the Republic of Kosovo. On this commemorative day, Kosovo institutions observed the memory of police personnel who lost their lives while performing their duties. The ceremony served to honor the sacrifice made by law enforcement officers in the line of duty.

The visit underscored the state’s recognition of the bravery displayed by the Bunjaku family and the community. The commemoration highlighted the ongoing commitment of the Kosovo Police to maintaining public safety and upholding national security, paying deep tribute to the memory of the fallen hero, Bunjaku, and all other officers who have served.
