The improvement of media freedom in Kosovo should continue.

Kosovo Sees Advancement in Media Freedom, Climbing World Press Freedom Index

Kosovo has registered a notable improvement in the realm of media freedom, moving 15 positions higher in the “Reporters Without Borders” World Press Freedom Index. The advancement reflects a developing situation within the country. EU Special Representative to Kosovo, Eva Palatova, has assessed this progress positively, emphasizing the need for sustained and expanded efforts.

“It is encouraging to see Kosovo rise 15 places in the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index,” Palatova stated. “This progress now needs to be maintained by public officials and the political elite, who share responsibility for ensuring an environment that supports the media.”

Despite this upward trend, challenges to media freedom remain significant. Journalists in Kosovo continue to face ongoing threats.

Palatova highlighted that the European Union will continue to monitor the situation closely. The rise represents a step forward for press freedom in Kosovo, but underscores the importance of continued vigilance and proactive measures to safeguard journalistic independence. Maintaining this improvement is a key priority for the region, and requires collaborative action to ensure a robust and secure environment for media operations.

The situation highlights the ongoing struggle for freedom of the press within Kosovo.
