The Judicial Council of Kosovo (KGJK) has officially decided against reinstating a group of Serbian judges and staff who previously resigned from the judicial system in 2022. The council rejected the formal request from the Serbian community’s representatives seeking to withdraw their resignations and return to active judicial service. The decision was reached following a vote that recorded nine votes in favor, one vote against, and one abstention.
Consequently, the KGJK ruled that the previously resigned Serbian judges and associated staff will not be reinstated into the judicial structure. In response to the council’s ruling, the President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, welcomed the outcome. Haxhiu stated that she is prepared to proceed with subsequent actions immediately upon the issuance of the official proposal by the KGJK.
She specifically endorsed the council’s inclination, announcing, “I welcome the proposal of the Judicial Council of Kosovo for the dismissal of the Serbian judges who resigned in 2022.”
The ruling marks a definitive administrative step regarding the status of these judicial personnel. By rejecting the reinstatement efforts, the KGJK has affirmed a separation between these specific Serbian judges and the functioning of the national judicial system.
