Kosovo Authorities Halt Work at Sixteen Workplaces Following Safety Inspections

Kosovo’s Central Labor Inspectorate announced on April 20, 2026, that work has been temporarily halted at sixteen workplaces as part of ongoing safety inspections. The announcement followed a wider inspection campaign conducted over a 48-hour period, involving the assessment of 38 workplaces. During this period, the Labor Inspectorate issued eleven notices related to workplace safety standards.

A total of 72 inspections were carried out across six municipalities within Kosovo. These inspections were initiated following a decision by the Ministry of Labor, Family and Protection of the Values of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK), prompted by a concerning rise in workplace accidents. Specifically, eight individuals have died in workplace incidents during the first four months of 2026.

The inspections are focused on ensuring compliance with safety regulations and preventing further accidents. The Ministry’s action underscores a commitment to improving worker safety conditions within Kosovo’s industrial sector. Further details regarding the specific notices issued are expected to be released by the Central Labor Inspectorate.
