US diplomat takes office as High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina

Louis J. Crishock has assumed the role of Acting High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the appointment by the Peace Implementation Council (PIC) Steering Board. Crishock officially took charge today, succeeding Christian Schmidt, the previous head of the Office of the High Representative (OHR).

The transition marks the commencement of Crishock’s mandate leading the OHR. During the handover, the new acting representative conveyed his appreciation for the confidence shown by the PIC Steering Board. Crishock stated, “I am honored by the trust that the Peace Implementation Council’s Steering Board has placed in me.

I will implement this mandate in accordance with the General Framework Agreement for Peace and the powers entrusted to the High Representative.”

Regarding his priorities, Crishock emphasized that the direction of the OHR’s actions will remain consistent, with state stability remaining the primary focus. He affirmed, “We will continue to focus on preserving peace and stability, supporting the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and ensuring full respect for the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

Christian Schmidt, the outgoing High Representative, extended his congratulations to the incoming Acting High Representative, wishing him success in executing the significant duties assigned to him within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
